Apollo Thermalhotel & Apartments

Apollo Thermalhotel & Apartments

The Apollo Thermalhotel&Apartments located in the hotel row of Hajdúszoboszló operates with two buildings as a member of the Hortus Naturae Hotels chain.

The hotel building originating from the 1970s initially was a holiday centre of the government with 10 suites and broad corridors. From 1998 following extensive renewal works it is operating as a four-star hotel. While being the holiday centre of the government several important people were guests here making a name for the hotel of Hajdúszoboszló.

Apollo Apartman previously has been a personnel department. During the renewal of the hotel in 1999 22 twinbed and four-bed apartments were formed. The four-star Apollo Apartman offers accommodation for those who have timeshare.

From the hotel to the thermal spa

Guests of the hotel arrive to the "Mecca of rheumatics" located in the North-Eastern part of the Great Plain, 200 km from Budapest and 20 km from Debrecen. Three landscapes meet at Hajdúszoboszló: Hajdúhát, Hortobágy and Nagysárrét. You can observe that besides rich croplands, thermal water and gas fields, many hours of sunlight are also considered to be the treasure of the land. In October 1925 a special, 73 °C thermal water welled out from 1091-metre depth due to the hydrocarbon research of the geologist Ferenc Pávai Vajna and made Hajdúszoboszló a bath town. The medicinal water contains among others iodine, bromide, sodium chloride, hydrogen carbonate and various trace elements. It has a curative effect on chronic arthritis, arthritic deformations, several inflammatory diseases of the spine, neuralgia, neuritis, paralytic condition and sports injuries. It is also regarded to have a favorable effect on hotel guests suffering from gynecological disorders, infertility and dermatological diseases. However, it is not recommended in case of tumors, circulatory failure, hypertension or tuberculosis.

From the hotel to the Aquapark

The newest amusement waiting for the hotel guests is the Aquapark opened in the summer of 2000. The water park offers a special kind of entertainment for visitors. Slides, pools and water games of specific design guarantee the leisure both for children and adults, juniors and seniors. The slide elements arrived from Spain to the Aquapark.

Starting from the 12-metre high tower visitors can choose from nine different tracks. You can find a four-track giant slide, two kinds of kamikaze slides and a giant spiral slide, where an extra tube is obligatory. Total length of the slides exceed 1 km. After the rides visitors can have a rest in the lazy river or in one of the three new beach pool (for adults, children and babies). In the babies' pool a water castle is entertaining the youngest.

From the hotel to the downtown

In Hajdúszoboszló not only thermal water is waiting for guests of Hortus Naturae Hotels, but also many sights. In Bocskai Street neighboring Hősök Square there is a Roman Catholic church, the interesting feature of which is that Pope John Paul II had visited it when he was the Archbishop of Kraków. In Bocskai Street there are four museums presenting the local history and ethnical values of Hajdúszoboszló. It's worth to visit the Museum of Local History and Ethnography and the art gallery, where permanent and also temporary exhibitions are presented to those who are interested in the fine arts of Hajdúszoboszló. The most recently established institution is the International Modern Museum of Hajdúszoboszló, where contemporary artworks are exhibited.

Guests of the hotel can take some extra walk and visit Gönczy Pál Street; the memorial of the victims of the 17th century Turkish military revenge stands in the park of the vocational school and college. Certainly, hotel guests may not forget about the pottery museum where artworks of craftsmen recently living in Hajdúszoboszló and making the famous black ceramics of Nádudvar can be seen.
